A. General Impression / Observation Shadowing is a wonderful way to experience the daily functions of a Student Affairs Administrator. For this assignment I chose to shadow an administrator in the Career Services Department. Ben Rohde, who is the Director of Career Services at Concordia University Wisconsin allowed me to gain a positive incite of the department. There was a lot to take away from this assignment. I learned how critical the Department of Career Services is not only to a college but also to its students. Some of the services that are offered are career counseling, career/major exploration, LinkedIn development, networking opportunities, occupation research, internship assistance, resume building, cover letter assistance, ect.†¦show more content†¦During the staff meeting was when I was introduced to the administrators who work in the office. Ben thought it was a great idea to go around the table and give a small introduction. This was helpful to me because it gave me an idea of what the daily tas ks are for each administrator. From my own personal observation, I feel that the administrators work extremely well together. During my introduction with Ben he informed me that since he has been there he has not hired anybody. Shelia, Krista and himself have been working together for quite sometime now and are going on almost five years together. That is quite unheard of to have all the same administrators working in the same office for that long of a period. It shows that they can collaborate with each other and are a hard working team. I feel that everybody in the office held a high level or morale. Ben and the other administrators in the office portrayed a high level of enthusiasm and dedication to their career. In the meeting they each talked about their WIG’S (Widely Important Goal’s) which are made in hopes that they will be accomplished before the next meeting occurs. The department seems very close knit and were willing to help each other with different tasks when needed. B. Administrators Responsibilities As the Director, Ben has many responsibilities. The issue is passionately debated since the majority of evidence is in favor of evolution, but the creation point of view can never be proved wrong because of religious belief. Further, it shall be known that there are three models of emotional intelligence that are ability model, mixed model and trait model. Under the ability model EI refers to the ability of an individual to observe emotions, integrate them to initiate thoughts, and understand emotions to regulate and promote them so that personal growth is motivated. The mixed model includes the characteristics trait of EI that are self-awareness, self-regulation, social skills, empathy and motivation. Lastly, under trait model EI refers to self-perception of an individual towards their emotional abilities (Legree, Mullins, and Psotka 2016). As per my concern emotional intelligence is a diverse topic including and facts in it, also it is one of the important aspects which help the business process to function efficiently. In my views, emotional intelligence helps a person to gather adequate knowledge about their abilities with the help of which they can introduce better efficiency in their working. Apart from it, EI also helps a person in achieving their personal life goals. If a person easily gets to know their abilities, then it is easy for them to become personally competent and gain their future goals defined. It helps a person to synthesize their abilities in the correct direction to create identification (Delcourt, et. al., 2016). The make feature of emotional intelligence which gained my attention is that it helps an individual to emphasis on aspects which are easily neglect y other people but are the main reason for the success of an organization or individual. It helps a person to develop leadership skills in them. Talking about person individual characteristics which can help them to lead is the acceptance or inheritance of leadership skills in them (Chang, et. al., 2017). Also, if a person does not possess adequate knowledge about emotional intelligence then they can face problems in implementing day to day activities. Emotional needs of a person helps them to understand their emotional needs and requirements which can help them to develop a better understanding regarding the concepts. Apart from that, emotional intelligence also helps to understand the behavior of people in a better way. Their attitude decides the way in which they will behave in the organization, and attitude is the only thing which initiates effective business communication in the management system of an organization (Petrides, et. al., 2016). So, if I am able to understand the emotional intelligence feature in people then it will become easy for me to lead and maintain healthy environment around me. My future aim for profession is to become a Human Resource Manager for a renowned firm. So, it is important for me to understand the concept of emotional intelligence and apply it in my organization. It is the duty of an HR to manage human resource activities in an organization effectively and efficiently. If I will have good understanding of EI then it will definitely help me accomplish my future goal and achieve the target which I have aimed for. As discussed earlier emotional intelligence refers to the ability of a person to understand the emotions of other people and label them accordingly. So, in my professional life this concept will help me to understand better the needs and feelings of people and then initiate activities so that good business environment is maintained. Also emotional intelligence will help me to inherit leadership skills in my behavior. As this process helps in determining self-awareness activities due to which I will get to know my skills and abilities on the basis of which I can work to achieve competence. If I am not motivated or having a positive behavior towards work, then my colleagues would not feel working under me. So, this process will help to be positive and initiate positivity in the environment as well. These words cause a lot of strife among grammarians, so we thought we would clear up some of the controversies by looking at three terms in detail: â€Å"nauseous,† â€Å"nauseated† and â€Å"nauseating.† Time to take your grammatical medicine! Nauseous (Causing Nausea or Feeling Sick) â€Å"Nauseous† is an adjective with two distinct meanings in modern English: Causing nausea or disgust nausea or disgust Feeling sick or disgusted The traditional meaning of â€Å"nauseous† is the first definition above. For example, we might say: The rotting meat gave off a nauseous smell. Here, â€Å"nauseous† implies that the smell of the meat is disgusting. Some (pedantic) people will insist that this first definition is the only â€Å"correct† use of this term. However, in practice, the second definition is widely used as well. As such, we could also say: The smell of the rotting meat made me nauseous. In this case, â€Å"nauseous† describes the feeling of nausea. This is, in fact, the most common meaning of this term in modern English and almost always how it is used in everyday language. Nauseated (Feeling Sick or Disgusted) The traditional word for feeling sick or disgusted is â€Å"nauseated.† This makes it like the second sense of â€Å"nauseous† above, so we would use it as follows: His disgusting habits left me nauseated. This term is actually the simple past tense of the verb â€Å"nauseate,† which means â€Å"to cause nausea.† Nauseating (Causing Nausea) Another variation of this term is the adjective â€Å"nauseating,† which means â€Å"causing nausea or disgust.† It is therefore used in the same way as the first definition of â€Å"nauseous† above. For instance: I find violent movies nauseating. The adverbial form of this word is â€Å"nauseatingly,† which is used when describing an action. Nauseous, Nauseated or Nauseating? So, with all of these overlapping meanings, how do you avoid errors when using these terms? Most of the time, using either â€Å"nauseous† or â€Å"nauseated† to mean â€Å"feeling sick or disgusted† is fine. You can then use â€Å"nauseating† to describe something that causes nausea or disgust, since this term only has one meaning. However, some still prefer to use the old-fashioned meaning of â€Å"nauseous,† especially in formal medical writing. Manufacturing Engineering is my passion and I have never had any trouble identifying my ambitions. What I enjoy most about the program is the diversity the course presents me. Projects are varied, wide, and each one of them distinct which are every reason I find the subject interesting. A degree in manufacturing engineering is very pertinent to my future career, it is one of those subjects that will fortify my engineering knowledge and equip me with the skills I need for successful jobs completion in future. I am certain that a degree on the same will provide me with the knowhow I require for a professional job in a plethora of sectors such as  industry, consultancy, finance, and public services. Beside my dream to pursue manufacturing engineering, the background I have on business engineering management makes me an eligible student for the program. I have chosen manufacturing engineering because I want to be a part of design technology that will see the cost of energy in production cut and ozone depletion reduced. To me, a career in material engineering is all I need as it will put me in the forefront of fighting for the improvement of the global environment and counter climate change. This subject does not only excite but intrigue me and I feel I have to master it in the near future. Engineering demands a few more skills for an increased productivity.
